Have you ever wonder that if Jesus were here today, what translation of the Bible would He use? Would He use the ever popular NIV? Or maybe He would hold to extremely literal translations like the NASB? Maybe He might enjoy his slang and prefer looser translations like the Message or NLT? Or perhaps Jesus, being the Word and the Word being with God and the Word being God, He might just quote from memory the original Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic that He Himself inspired.

So while He was here what Bible did Jesus use? Some of Jesus’ Old Testament quotations seem to come from a Hebrew text like the aforementioned Masoretic Text and some of them seem to line up with an Aramaic text. But of the 250 Old Testament quotations in the New Testament, the majority are from the Septuagint. The Septuagint is a Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible. The word Septuagint means “seventy” which allows us to abbreviate it as LXX. It got its name from a story, possibly legend, about the origins of this Greek translation.

A letter from a court official of King Ptolemy, supposedly from the 3rd century BC, speaks of the origins of LXX. Ptolemy was a big fan of literature and boasted the world’s largest library in Alexandria. He became interested in the Hebrew Bible, especially the Torah, and wanted it translated into the common language at the time, Greek. The High Priest of Jerusalem, Eleazar, sent him six elders from each of the tribes of Israel to translate. They confined themselves to the island of Pharos and 72 days later they emerged with a Greek translation of the Pentateuch. The name Septuagint was adopted at some point to acknowledge the 72 elders who translated it in 72 days.

While that story makes you feel all warm and cozy, the letter is suspect in its dating and authenticity. The LXX may have also been created to accommodate the popularity of the Greek language which was even spoken commonly in Jerusalem. It also was convenient for the large amount of Jews who, as a result of a new invention called roads, had moved far away from Jerusalem into primarily Greek-speaking areas.

It seems that the LXX was not intended to be the authoritative Scripture that was used by priests in the synagogue, but was meant for use by everyone else. Similar to most churches where the congregation uses the NIV at home, while the pastor may preach from another translation, if not the Greek. That is why the Apostles and Jesus chose the LXX. Christianity did not spread rapidly through the elite of society such as the Pharisees. It spread to common folk and especially Gentiles who where ignorant of the Hebrew language. The Jews however seem to have abandoned the use of the LXX in the 2nd century AD, probably because of the popular usage by Christianity (a competing religion) and because of the dispersion of the Jews after the Temple was destroyed. Many Jews after 70 AD didn’t stay in the unaccommodating Roman Empire and probably ended up in areas, like Persia, where Aramaic was more commonly spoken. The Christians however, continued to use the LXX through the 4th century. In the 4th century, Jerome translated the Bible into Latin and found the Hebrew to be more accurate. His Latin Vulgate took over predominance and is still important today in the Roman Catholic Church.

Jerome was correct in noticing the differences between Hebrew and the Septuagint. If the LXX was created in only 72 days, it might help explain the differences from the Masoretic Text, which is seen as the authority in Judaism today. The Septuagint grew to include several non-canonical books in addition to the books found in the Hebrew Bible. The LXX also has books in a different order and some books, such as Job, Joshua and Proverbs are shorter than the Hebrew Bible. The LXX also appears to lack a set translation style. In some areas it has a literal translation while in others a more free translation is apparent. Even with these faults, the LXX is still remarkably consistent with the Masoretic Text and most differences are due to translation style.

The greatest consequence of the LXX is that it bridged the gap between Hebrew believers and Gentile believers. Without it, the spread of Christianity may have been greatly hindered. It also offers an interesting application for us when debating between different translations. Jesus and the Apostles saw fit to base their teachings on what is today seen as only the second best in accuracy. While the LXX did not provide them the best verbatim translation, it was more culturally relevant. As a long-time proponent of literal translations, it makes me think differently of more culturally relevant translations.

This is a very simple question. It is a question many have asked and will continue to ask. The way to the Father is through Jesus Christ His Son. There is no other way.

There are many people in the world today, billions of people who are searching for answers, searching for the way; the way to joy, the way to happiness, the way to peace, the way to forgiveness, the way to security. They go from here to there looking for the way in other religions, horoscopes, fortune tellers, psychics, drugs or alcohol, trying to find the answer, when the answer is right in front of them! Maybe you are one of these people. They don’t want to recognize what is right in front of them, the simple truth that Jesus Christ came to the earth in the form of man; He died for your sins, and rose again. It is so simple!

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, Romans 1:18-22.

Paul clearly tells the Roman Christians that God’s invisible attributes are clearly seen and understood by all creation, even God’s eternal power and Godhead. The way, the answer is everywhere you look, you just have to see it! You have to accept it! Jesus will reveal himself to you if you seek Him! Where have you sought for the Answer? Have you sought the answer in scientology, Buddhism or other religions? Have you sought the answer in horoscopes, or fortune telling or by consulting a psychic? Many people who attend church regularly haven’t found the answer either. They think because their parents were Christians, or they attend church every time the door is open, they have the answer, but they don’t! They think actions, or the actions of their parents will lead them to Jesus. It doesn’t. What did Jesus tell us? He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, there is no other.

that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:15-16

let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts4: 10,12

Don’t be fooled by the tricks of Satan. There is life after death! Your spirit will live forever. You will have to choose where you want to spend eternity. You can spend it with Jesus and Father God or you can spend it totally, completely separated from God, in Hell. It is your choice.

But it is such a simple choice all you have to do is believe, that is to rely on, trust in or cling to, Jesus.

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation. Romans 10:9-10

This is the next simple step, you have already believed, now you confess it with your mouth, and you will be saved. You believe in your heart that Jesus died for you, that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, then you say it out loud, for it is with the mouth that confession is made to salvation.

Have you done this?

Do you believe Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life?

Do you believe He died for you?

Do you believe God raised Him from the dead and He lives again?

If you answered yes to these questions then you have found the Answer!

You have taken the first step to eternal life, because you believe in, (trust in, rely on, cling to) Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Now - do the second part - Say it, Say it, Say it!

Think on these things:

Jesus came to give us eternal life with God the Father. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Believing on Jesus gives you eternal life. There is life after death- life with the Father or life totally, completely separated from God in hell. To have eternal life all you have to do is believe and Say it! It is so simple!

If you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Savior and you want to be a joint heir with Christ? Then I urge you to earnestly pray the following prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. Your word says, “…and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.” (Jn.6:37),

So I know You won’t cast me out, but You take me in, And I thank you for it. You said in your Word, "whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.'' (Ro. 10:13).

I am calling on Your name, So I know You have saved me now, You also said, “…that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.” (Ro.10:9,10).

I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe He was raised from the dead for my justification. And I confess Him now as my Lord, Because Your Word says, “… with the heart one believes to righteousness…” and I do believe with my heart, I have now become the righteousness of God in Christ. (2 Cor. 5:21),

And I am saved! Thank You, Lord! I can now truthfully say, I see myself as a born again child of God!

I have just received the most wonderful news. My pastor and also my favorite man of God has just been ordained an apostle of the Chrisco Ministry which he has served for well over 20 years now. The Lord Is Close To Those Suffering The Spirit Of Rejection

18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

An acute case of the spririt of rejection is the worst possible thing a human being can suffer. Yet the Bible tells us clearly that the LORD himself is very close to the “brokenhearted” or those whose spirit is “crushed.” (note that the Bible describes persons suffering from rejection as “broken hearted” of of a “crushed spirit”.

This revelation is a great encouragement and very significant because it means that their prayers will be answered quickly. In fact the Lord is looking for ways and means that they can be delivered.

It means that their prayers and cry to the Lord will be heard quickly. We know that the Lord does not listen to sinners so there has to be a cleansing of sorts. Repentance, even on behalf of sins of past generations is the thing to do.

But the fact that the LORD is “close” to you who has a broken heart should be very encouraging and a reason for great joy.

There are lots of very sick people walking around who look fine. The problem is really very simple, they cannot find love.

This is illustrated frequently in the way people desperately search to find love and acceptance in the wrong places. Many have thought that making a lot of money solves the problem, but love and acceptance cannot be purchased, no matter how much you are prepared to pay for it.

Other times the doorway for rejection and an inability to find love later in life, could be opened at birth, The mother wanted a boy and finds that she has a girl. She is bitterly disappointed and that opens the door for the life-long suffering of the young girl because of the spirit of rejection.

The symptoms that show you clearly that somebody is suffering rejection and will never find love, include an inferiority complex and great difficulties in finding a life partner.

Jesus Is The Only Answer To The Curse of Rejection

Life is full of people walking around carrying rejection and the curse of rejection with them. The only solution and answer to this is of course the Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

How does somebody end up with a curse of rejection in their lives?

Here are a few examples of how this happens;

a) Father rejects mother's pregnancy and disowns child.

b) Mother is upset to find that she's pregnant when marriage is still not guaranteed to the father of child. This is one of the main reasons why first-borns usually suffer serious rejection in their lives.

c) A bitterly disappointed parent ends up with a boy when they were expecting girl or vice versa.

c) Child inherits rejection from parents. The Bible says that a curse extends unto the third and fourth generation.

Classic symptoms
Rejected by people everywhere. Can't keep a job, rebellious in nature (spirit of rejection and spirit of rebellion usually work very closely together. We shall cover this later.)

Also people carrying a spirit of rejection go through life struggling, suffering and usually have suicidal tendencies.

Solution
The only solution to this problem is Jesus Christ who came to earth almost 2,000 years ago to set the captives free. Draw closer to the Lord and resist the devil and he'll flee from you. Read James Chapter 4.

We shall now focus very closely on this subject in this blog and give detailed instructions on how one can get delivered from rejection.

I’ve been doing a character study of King David – the greatest King Israel ever had. Quite appropriate wit the current health problems of Israel Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, being so much in the news.

I will resist the temptation to preach here and keep this very brief. The main difference between King David and King Saul was in their reaction to sin. Saul gave excuses, David repented immediately and cried to the Lord. That’s all.

That’s what made the difference between one of the worst Kings Israel ever had and the best.

Kind of scary isn’t it? That the stuff of life is made of such small details like the name on some pet tags getting mixed up and a beloved pet being lost forever. Or some NY lawyers making a simple choice in preferring to go in the direction of investing in precious metals and ending up making a fortune just because they were at the right place at the right time. While some other guy works hard their whole life and ends up with little or nothing to show for it. Life is really about seemingly small differences.

Who Can Tame The Tongue?

So after being told exactly how deadly and damaging this object called the tongue is, the next bombshell we receive from the manufacturer’s handbook is that it is impossible to tame.

Yep. We can only actually “guard” the cage that houses this wild untamable beast, the mouth. Keep it tightly sealed as often as possible to contain the wild animal that’s inside. And when you do open it, you should be very careful to control what you say. Remember our earlier passage?

A man shall eat well by the fruit of his mouth,
But the soul of the unfaithful feeds on violence.
He who guards his mouth preserves his life,
But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.

Amazing stuff this. It means that we can tame Snakes, Lions, Tigers and every wild, nasty animal… but not the tongue. The tongue can only be carefully “guarded”.

When I first became aware of this amazing revelation from the manufacturer’s handbook, I had mixed emotions. On one hand my eyes were opened and I understood a lot of things that I had never understood before, but on the other hand I was terrified. I began to remember everything that I have said in my life that was evil and negative. I purposed immediately to start talking positively as much as possible. And I also purposed to be very careful about what I say.

You see once you’ve said something, you can never take it back. For better or for worse, you’ve planted a seed and you can’t stop it’s growth. It is a seed that will grow into something. Imagine the power, imagine the effect when the words spoken are positive. Imagine the violence and devastation when those words are negative and evil. You can’t really stop them.

How Your Tongue Can Breed Violence

Most folks think that what I am about to say is some fairy tale.

In the spiritual realm there are always two different forces. Demons and messengers of the devil and then angels and the Holy Spirit of the Living God, the manufacturer of the human race himself.

In the last post we saw how words are things, seeds actually. So when you speak your words are used as seeds by either of these groups. For evil by those who plant and harvest evil and for good by those who plant and harvest good. This is why negative thoughts and words do not belong to the manufacturer or even His products. No wonder they have such a devastating effect on us that we need motivational speakers to come and help us lift our spirits once again.

The mission of the kingdom of the evil one is clear. The manufacturer’s manual says that he comes to kill, steal and destroy. That’s plenty of violence and the truth is that there’s plenty of violence in his headquarters in hell.

Armed with this information, our passage from Proverbs 13: 2&3 makes plenty of sense. And so does the next passage from the manufacturer’s handbook;

Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.
See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

James 3: 4-8

Bible Backs Motivational Speakers

You know them. Folks pay handsomely to hear them speak and if you’ve ever attended any of the sessions, you come out feeling really pumped and rearing to go.

Some people don’t think very much of motivational speakers, but the world seems to be in greater need of them than ever before. Fact is this planet has become a really discouraging locality. What with the record volume of bad news being churned out by the news channels and issues like the ones being handled currently by Ortho Evra Lawyers. Now the product’s manufacturer’s manual seems to indicate that positive thinking (yep, you read it right) and positive confession are not only vital for success but is in fact so critical that it is a life and death issue.

To best understand what these words from the manufacturer’s manual mean it is useful to first examine what goes on in the spiritual realm. Words are not just hot air as we think, they are actually objects. In the beginning God spoke and from His words, the earth and universe were formed. We humans are made in his image and that is why if you curse your child by constantly calling them stupid and saying that they will not amount to much, that is exactly what is going to happen to them.

Your words are a seed that will grow and one day, even if your child is very smart now, he’ll end up stupid and he’ll not amount to much. Exactly what you have decreed. And that is the sort of fruit that you will eat from the seeds that you planted.

In the same way when people speak positive things, it is also a seed and it grows and becomes reality. So what the manual says here is that we should always, constantly speak positive. All the time everywhere and every time. Because whatever you speak is a thing, a seed that will grow, a “fruit of the mouth” as the manual tells us here.

But where does the violence come in? We’ll take a look at that in the next post.
